Why Happy Memorial Day by Wayne T. Dowdy
I watched a few videos on TicTok and some of the creators mentioned that Memorial Day isn’t anything to be happy about because it is to honor those fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom we share in America.
Well, from my perspective, Happy Memorial Day is akin to Good Friday. On Good Friday, Christians celebrate Jesus Christ being sacrificed, so how is it Good for Him to be crucified and hung on a cross to die? Why do people celebrate His death? Well, it is not exactly the death of Jesus Christ being celebrated, from my understanding.
The celebration of Good Friday is because He died for the Sins of the People and Rose again to bring salvation to the masses.
On Memorial Day, Americans celebrate the holiday and are Happy because of the freedom gained by those brave men and women who gave their lives to let freedom ring.
The holiday is to remember and to show our gratitude for the sacrifices they made. They didn’t die because they wanted everyone to be sad under an oppressive regime. They died so that we could live in a free society. I’m sure that most of those who died would not want us to spend eternity being sad because they lost their lives in the process of letting freedom ring throughout the land.
Today, we honor those brave men and women and are happy to experience the lives we have because of their sacrifices.
